Kata Unger

Biography

Born in 1961 in Est Berlin, Germany.
Lives and works in Berlin.

In Kata Unger’s tapestries, codes and chaos are intertwined. The woven fabric is the vehicle for a rich imagery, reminiscent of medieval worlds, where imaginary beings and humans coexist. Her approach is punk, rebel, and critical: words like slogans intrude on scenes where the beings try to float. Raft of Medusa or Noah’s Ark— struggle, sex, pain, and game are all brought together on shifting grounds or in the turbulences of a maelstrom. A struggle between romantic dreaming and bumpy illusions is carried by a delicate palette. Through the slow and fastidious process of jacquard weaving, Kata Unger patiently reflects on the world, her gaze both looking straight ahead and back.

There’s a Man in a Smiling Bag

[Group show]

22.05.2026 – 18.07.2026

Drawing as much from pop culture references as from mythological figures, the works brought together in this exhibition weave a sort of trans-dimensional and trans-temporal narrative that is in a state of perpetual metamorphosis. Shady characters, transfigured bodies, organic flesh, and raw gestures unfold throughout the exhibition like ghosts; a spectacle that reveals both the fragility and the flexibility of time, There’s a Man in a Smiling Bag seeks to open a breach—an anarchic space-time where systems collapse and new meanings emerge.

Tribes

Marlon Wobst

03.11.2023 – 13.01.2024

They are running, skipping, falling, they are looking at each other, playing with each other, they are making love or doing nothing at all—but they are always together. The concept of tribe —the group, the collective— is at the core of Marlon Wobst’s most recent work. Marlon Wobst is sensitive to the present and his own time: he represents what he lives and what he sees. His aim is first one of a detective/researcher/ His agenda is that of a researcher, investigating human beings, for human beings.

Maria Zahle

Biography

Born in 1979 in Denmark.
Lives and works in Copenhagen.

Maria Zahle’s multidisciplinary practice includes collage, textiles, sculpture, performance, and poetry. For years, she has been creating her own dyes using natural materials and plants she grows herself: indigo, madder, linen, mignonette, walnuts, soot… Thus, her delicate palette of blues, pinks, reds, yellows, greens, and blacks is the result of a long and complex process rooted in nature and the history of humanity since ancient times. Her work highlights the body and its involvement throughout the creative process, focusing on the traces we leave on the people and spaces we encounter.

Le mur vert bouteille (The Bottle Green Wall)

Maria Zahle

11.09.2026 – 7.11.2026

The exhibition Le Mur vert bouteille (The Bottle Green Wall), Danish artist Maria Zahle’s first in France, is built around the sentiment longing, in a wider sense of absence, grief, and melancholia. Its title echoes a wall that Maria Zahle’s grandmother had painted, as a liberating gesture, in her seaside house. A space for independence and creativity, that house was also the host of loneliness, of heartaches, of absent or dead men, and of languishing women.

Marielle Paul

Biography

Born in 1960 in Lyon, France.
Works and lives in Paris, France.

Marielle Paul’s world recalls an imaginary garden filled with shapes, curves and airy musings. With confident gestures, in bright shades of gouache or ink, the artist traces her compositions, which are neither quite abstract nor completely figurative. Whilst nature has been and remains an important source of inspiration, so too are readings, music, travel – life itself. Marielle Paul is intent on capturing the essence of it. The artist is generous in the use of her colour palette, lending her compositions an atmosphere which can be soft or explosive in turn. She playfully leads us on a journey with a vast sensory spectrum: darker notes also invite themselves into the luminous profusions. Starting from the mental herbarium of the painter, her works go beyond the intimate level, establishing a dynamic reading with universal and archetypal accents.

Calepin

Marielle Paul

24. 03 > 06. 05. 2025

Calepin, the title of Marielle Paul’s first exhibition at the Galerie Maria Lund, refers to calepinage – a layout sketch developed to prepare and catalogue the cutting and laying of stones, a coating, or even the joints to be drawn. The title therefore refers to the structure and integration of different elements, but also to a small personal notebook, the calepin, in which to write anything and everything, higgledy-piggledy and without hierarchy.

Mille Patte – Tusindben

French institute in Denmak, Copenhagen

28. 08. 2024 > 17. 01. 2025

Marielle, the mother, paints in Paris while
Maud, the daughter, designs furniture in Maastricht.

Millepatte -Tusindben is their mother-daughter conversation, nourished by a shared taste for play and a common fascination for the vitality of nature: shapes and colors abound and vibrate with humor.

Marielle’s restless Mosaïques make their way along the wall, while Maud’s Millipede sofa takes a few steps on the floor. […]

Galerie Jean Fournier

21. 01 > 11. 03. 2023

Conceived by the artists Alexis Nivelle and Vincent Herlemont in partnership with the Galerie Jean Fournier, the exhibition Abstraction-Mutations seeks to put forward certain dynamics of contemporary creation that take the history of abstraction into account. A history that condenses genealogies and what may seem as contradictory attitudes.

ALLEZ ZOU

Michael Woolworth studio

29. 09 >  04. 10. 2022

To celebrate the release of ALLEZ ZOU, a series of 6 original lithographs that came to exist in a collaboration between the graphic designer and typographer Pierre di Sciullo and the painter Marielle Paul, the workshop Atelier Michael Woolworth has brought together new artworks from their respective practices, from drawn poems and typographic experimentations to watercolor and gouache paperworks.

Musée de Roanne

30. 06 > 12. 10. 2021

Thirty-five years of work deserved to be brought together for an exceptional solo-exhibition in her native
region. This will be an opportunity for the viewer to follow the unique development of her rhizomatous and radicating lines recently mentioned by Karim Ghaddab following the acquisition of Fleurs (2017) by the FRAC Auvergne. Lines that seem more connected to Nature itself than to hardcore abstraction.

Morten Søndergaard

Biography

Born in 1964 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Works and lives in Pietrasanta, Italy.

Morten Søndergaard has never ceased exploring collisions between meaning and materiality, which led him to numerous extra-linguistic experiments and links between the body and language.**

La Pharmacie des Mots (The Word Pharmacy) questions the connections between the language, body, poetry and medicine. It applies to the ten word categories (verbs, adjectives, prepositions, substantives…) the logic of a dosage and the modalities of administrating medication – including warnings, recommendations and mention of secondary effects. When we write, small elements react with each other just like a chemical reaction or synthesis. Each word is chosen in order to provoke a reaction in the reader; in the same way molecules are carefully selected by medicine to create the desired effect on the patient.*** Don’t the words written on medicine leaflets address life and death matters? A series of performances – Consultations – based on La Pharmacie des Mots  (The Word Pharmacy) will allow to appreciate its therapeutic potential.

Materiality also has an incidence on the effect and perception of words. In a series of sculptures, Morten Søndergaard had words engraved in sky-blue marble slates: Rien suffit, Ne te connais pas toi-même (Nothing is enough, Do not know thyself …) Through these pieces that resemble tomb stones or commemoration plaques, the artist questions the temporality and the identity of the person talking. Who is speaking when these words, put together by a poet, are inscribed on a plaque by a stone mason? And how do we perceive what is set in stone? Does the medium endow the words with another time dimension? In Le graveur de pierre de Pietrasanta, (The stone mason from Pietrasanta), Morten Søndergaard writes: His machine whines and he drills his way through the mountain. He cuts down to the living and to the dead. This poem, as well as other from the book L’Attrape-soleil (The Sun-Catcher) that has just been released in France, will be part of a reading during the show. Among other topics are kisses, the restless being that tries, falls, gets back up, falls again, tries again, the pleasure of power and lovers who make love, although reaching the other seems impossible. The world is smooth, brutal, delicious and Morten Søndergaard embraces it with delectation and despair, melancholy and tenderness, sarcasm and humor.

Fee Kleiss

Biography

Born in 1984 in Kuchen, Germany.
Lives and works in Berlin.

Fee Kleiss is fascinated by possible links. She finds objects and waste in order to create a conversation between them; first as an attentive mediator and then as an almighty artistic director, who decides, rejects, modifies, sets and narrates. Mural installations are thus born – small still-lives or more precisely reanimated lives – and paintings with an unsettling perspective, which add or are being added to volumes, objects.

Fee Kleiss tells stories, plays with concepts and implicit words in her findings; all are questioned and diverted. The creativity is immense and brings life to a new vitality in things that were set aside, forgotten, lost. A little something can make a world. Humor, tenderness, eroticism, drama, beauty and rejection intertwine; the artist leads us along like a child who is eager to find a playmate. Observing contemporary society, its obsessions, expressions, its politically correctness… Nothing is left behind!

While Fee Kleiss’s foundation is, granted, painting, the artist also works on waste, objects, old clothes, photos, and magazines, accumulating and repurposing them, to then incorporate them to her paintings or transform them into standalone volumes. In her world, nothing is lost,1 nothing is denied, and anything can happen.
In this way, transformation is at the core of the process from which this new body of works was born, under the enigmatic title l’Œil de l’Ail (The Eye of Garlic). The title, in turn, echoes one of her previous works, referring to an eye and garlic —another form of repurposing…

Elise Peroi

Biography

Born in 1990 in Nantes, France.
Lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.

Weaving is the art of waiting, of a slow building through the back and forth of the shuttle through the warp. The work assembles itself section by section to culminate in a final revelation.

For Elise Peroi, the craft process and its meditative aspect matter almost as much as the work born from it. Having long hesitated between painting and weaving, she found a form bringing the two together. She first paints on silk, cuts her painting into thin straps to then weave back again, playing with planes and movements. As the threads vibrate and the wood of the loom chatters, the artists lives through a mental and sensory journey. Thus, the woven work is being created in a minimal choreography to the music of repetitive sounds. This pas-de-deux executed in communion with the material also expressed itself through performances: Elise Peroi reuses her work gestures, integrating branches and marble to the threads, interweaving herself, or performing nameless rites where seeds and soil evoke the original cycle of endless new beginnings. In this way, she extends the tangible reality of the weaves.

For Elise Peroi, the metaphorical dimension of such a practice is as important as the material creation. […]

Pernille
Pontoppidan Pedersen

Biography

Born in 1987 in Skive, Denmark.
Lives and work on a farm in the woods around Silkeborg, Denmark.

Pernille Pontoppidan Pedersen started her career as a ceramist by undermining the bases of this discipline. She developed an aesthetic of the ugly, the failure, the missed attempt. In one of her first series of work, she chose to disregard her training to excellence by integrating to her art the failed experiences of the best ceramic artists of the country. She Kills the jar, the pot, bowl and all the craft objects, to which ceramics limited itself for a long time. She undermines her discipline, and starts to reconstruct: shaky and almighty structures, tiered tempettopieces, sandcastles, heaps of found objects caught in a heavy flow of clay, foamy glazes that overflow like washing up fluid.

The works of Pernille Pontoppidan tell a hundred pieces of fascinated stories superimposed in a cadaver exquis of good and very bad taste, of baroque and minimalism, of extreme dexterity and bitter failures.

Accumulations of life remnants, still-lives of contemporary existence, architectures or altars meant for libations of consumerist society… As static as they are, Pernille Pontoppidan Pedersen’s sculptures are intimately linked to pulsating life. A crowbar, old dentures found in an abandoned factory, a toaster, a piece of electric cable, a small shapeless cushion or even traces of nicotine on the wall; the inspirations are limitless. Pernille Pontoppidan Pedersen is fascinated by the nooks of life, including those that exist in silent rejection or that could be described as ugly.

Biography

Born in 1958 in Denmark.
Lives and works in Skanderborg, Denmark.

Elle-Mie Ejdrup Hansen explores the relationships between mankind and space, as well as the links between body and mind. Her work takes on multiple shapes – drawing, painting, new technologies, monumental site specific installations – and often contains a collaborative dimension. For example, she works with prisoners to conceive an artwork that will greet the visitors upon arrival or with inhabitants of an ill-reputed neighbourhood to literally shine a new light on the place.

Her projects – in whichever dimensions – are filled with spirituality and are characterized by a delicate graphic work.

Peter Neuchs

Biography

Born in 1958 in Århus, Denmark.
Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Peter Neuchs’s œuvre is a contemporary interpretation of the Baroque aspiration to unite terrestrial and celestial, visible and invisible – encompassing the temporal, the perishable and what pertains to eternity. His work is characterized by surfaces filled “all-over”. It is excessively stuffed with details, sensations, and feelings.

The memento mori, a notion dear to Peter Neuchs, lies at the heart of his work : through a play on perception his blurry images interrogate our reality, our relation to matter, our existence as matter.

Esben Klemann is an insatiable artist. He experiments, constantly. He tries, models, destroys, reconstructs, works in series until setting up a system. What triggers this creative hyperactivity is a will he brandishes as a manifesto, as an artistic program in itself: escaping boredom, escaping banality. The inoffensive, nice matters that adorn our everyday life, are revolutionized as they pass the Klemann filter. Concrete sensually undulates and then gently collapses. The artist transforms ceramics into a solid cage that subsequently caves in the oven because of the heat or of a small absurd object he placed inside… Esben Klemann talks about “systematic uncertainty”. He sets a process in place, that never corresponds to the traditional way of working the matter he choose. He then observes the misused matter respond to his system – each time differently. Thus the incident becomes his artistic language.

16.11. 2019 – 11.01.2020

The exhibition Migrations brings together three artists, the photographer Nicolai Howalt, the visual artist Esben Klemann and the sculptor Pipaluk Lake – who exploit, each in their own way, the migration of matters.
Migrations thus shows how a world invisible to the eye, regulated by its own rules, causes movements, whether spontaneous or born from the impact of voluntary interventions… Through the scope of the artworks, the very concrete field of the materials reveals the fundamental processes that are inherent to our existences.

Nicolai Howalt
Esben Klemann

7.11.2017 – 6.01.2018

Nicolai Howalt practices a concrete abstraction, an enlarged reality that most often starts with elements of nature to seize less visible dimensions of our existence. Esben Klemann questions matters and forms in a fun and innovative approach – going against established concepts. With de travers (sideways), the two artists have entered a dialog by taking possession of the gallery space in an unusual way. Nicolai Howalt and Esben Klemann wanted to make their respective fascinations dialog together, while challenging each other, by turning the common artistic practices upside down.

Ravage

Peter Martensen

09. 03 – 27. 08. 2017
